Daily Log - April 29, 1998

Well, we're still here.

Doug had an interesting experience last night after we got to Cambridge Bay. After that full day yesterday he was asked to go in to the RCMP and guard a prisoner last night, until 8:00 o'clock this morning. After that he joined us for breakfast. It was a full 24-hr day for him!

We went over to Adlair and squared up our account with them, at which time we were able to see our website. We got a bit of a break on the fly out since they were bringing out a polar bear hunter to a hunting camp so we only had to pay for one way. This will help with our extra costs for the extended stay.

I went to visit a local school to talk with them about the possibility of an exchange program with some students from a school in Streetsville Ontario. Some contacts were made and the process was intiated, hopefully to happen a year from now.

We poked around the town a bit. Visited both stores. Derek's feeling much better.

Inukshuk - April '98 We decided we're eating too much so we've skipped supper, just having a bit of fruit and snacks. We didn't starve out in the blizzard, but we didn't eat much - we were trying to make our supplies last since we didn't know how long we would be out there. Since we got back we've had full meals, so we're cutting back now.

I called two young ladies, Holly Biggs and Alison Macintosh, who had contacted us via the website before we left regarding a school project. They were quite excited about everything that has happened.

We're leaving for home tomorrow afternoon, but we will have an overnight stop in Edmonton. Then we'll set out Friday morning via Calgary and should be in Toronto at about 7:30 pm. I'll call you if anything changes.

Webmaster's note: There was, in fact a change. The team was fortunate in Edmonton to catch a "red-eye" flight to Toronto that evening, and arrived safely ('tho somewhat the worse for wear) in Toronto at 6:30 Friday morning.
